Overview

Mitogen-activated protein kinase-activated protein kinase 2 (MAPKAPK2), also known as MK2, is a serine/threonine-protein kinase that plays a central role in cellular responses to stress and inflammation. It is activated by p38 MAP kinase and regulates cytokine production, cell migration, and DNA damage repair. It has been implicated in cancer and inflammatory diseases and is a potential therapeutic target. Major substrates include HSP27, Cdc25B/C, and RNA-binding proteins ZFP36/tristetraprolin and ELAVL1/HuR.
