Mitogen-activated protein kinase-interacting kinase 2 (MK2) is a serine/threonine protein kinase activated by p38 MAPK. It plays a crucial role in cellular responses to stress and inflammation, cell division, apoptosis, and DNA damage repair. As a downstream effector of p38 MAPK, it regulates inflammatory cytokine mRNA stability and translation, cell cycle checkpoints, apoptosis, and cell motility. MK2 is considered a therapeutic target for inflammatory diseases and cancer, particularly in tumors with mutated p53.
