Overview

MAP3K8 encodes a serine/threonine-specific protein kinase involved in the regulation of inflammatory and immune responses. It activates ERK1/2, p38 MAP kinases, and IκB kinases, leading to NF-κB activation and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. It has been implicated in cancer development and chronic inflammatory diseases. Pharmacological inhibition is being explored for treatment of chronic inflammation.
