Cell Division

Cell division is the fundamental biological process by which a parent cell divides to produce two daughter cells. This process is essential for growth, development, tissue repair, and reproduction in living organisms. Cell division typically occurs as part of the broader cell cycle, which includes phases of growth (interphase), DNA replication, and the actual division events (mitosis or meiosis). Dysregulation in any component controlling cell division—such as mutations in genes encoding cyclins or CDKs—can result in uncontrolled proliferation characteristic of cancer. Many anti-cancer therapies now target these regulatory molecules directly.
