Overview
Mixed lineage kinase 1 (MLK1) is a serine/threonine kinase and a member of the mixed lineage kinases (MLKs), which are part of the mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase (MAP3K) family. MLK1 acts upstream in MAP kinase signaling pathways, particularly influencing cellular processes such as cell migration, invasion, cell cycle regulation, and apoptosis. It is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, as well as cancer. Small molecule inhibitors like CEP-1347 and CEP-11004 target the MLK family, demonstrating neuroprotective effects.
