Overview

MKNK1 antisense RNA 1 (MKNK1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the MKNK1 gene and is identified as an autophagy-associated lncRNA. It serves as an adverse prognostic factor in prostate cancer, where higher expression levels are associated with poorer survival. MKNK1-AS1, along with other lncRNAs, is proposed as a part of a signature for cancer prognosis and may function in gene regulation and autophagy, although its exact molecular mechanism has yet to be precisely defined. MKNK1-AS1 is not a classic protein-coding therapeutic target but represents a potential RNA-based intervention point in cancer and other diseases where autophagy or gene regulation via lncRNAs is disrupted[5]. No evidence is present that it is misspelled or fundamentally misclassified, although knowledge of lncRNA functional mechanisms remains limited and further research is needed to clarify direct therapeutic utility.
