Overview

Moisture" is not the name of a specific molecule or receptor. In biological and medical contexts, "moisture" generally refers to the **water content** present in tissues or environments. In humans and animals, body water is essential for numerous physiological processes including nutrient transport, waste excretion, temperature regulation through sweating and respiration[4][5][6][7], lubrication of joints[3][4], protection of sensitive tissues[5][6], shock absorption[3][4], and maintaining cellular homeostasis. The percentage of water in the human body varies by age, sex, tissue type, and hydration status but typically ranges from 45–75% by weight[5]. While moisture levels are critical to health—dehydration or fluid overload can cause disease—there is no single molecular target called "moisture." However, measurement of moisture-related parameters such as sweat chloride can serve as biomarkers in certain diseases like cystic fibrosis[1]. Thus "moisture" should not be considered a therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme; it describes a physical property rather than a discrete molecular entity.
