Molybdenum cofactor synthesis 1 pseudogene 1 (MOCS1P1) is a non-coding pseudogene in the human genome. It is a sequence similar to the functional MOCS1 gene, which is involved in the biosynthesis of the molybdenum cofactor, an essential component for certain enzymatic activities. However, MOCS1P1 itself does not yield a functional product and lacks characterized biological activity. Like other pseudogenes, it is regarded as a genomic relic—an inactive copy resulting from gene duplication or retrotransposition. There is no experimental evidence that MOCS1P1 participates in any regulatory, structural, or disease mechanism in humans. Pseudogenes such as MOCS1P1 are commonly annotated in genomes as non-functional gene relics. Although some pseudogenes have, in select cases, evolved roles in regulatory networks (such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or as regulators of their parental genes), this is not the case for MOCS1P1: curated genome resources and published studies provide no evidence of functional transcription, translation, or disease relevance for MOCS1P1. It is not recognized as a therapeutic target and does not interact with any drugs.
