Monkeypox Virus Antigen H3 Protein (H3L)

Target
H3L
Molecular classification
Viral Envelope Protein, Antigen, Chordopoxvirinae protein H3 family
01

Overview

The Monkeypox virus (MPXV) H3 protein, also known as the H3L protein, is a major envelope antigen found on the surface of the mature virion (MV) form of MPXV. It plays a critical role in viral attachment to host cells and mediates infection by binding to specific cell-surface molecules, notably heparan sulfate. The H3 protein is highly immunogenic and serves as a key target for both humoral and cellular immune responses during infection or vaccination. Recombinant forms of the MPXV-H3L protein are used as antigens in rapid diagnostic assays. Anti-H3L mAbs have potential therapeutic applications due to their neutralizing activity against live virus.
