Overview

Monkeypox virus antigen M1 (M1R) is a highly conserved myristoylated surface membrane protein found in the intracellular mature virion (IMV) form of the monkeypox virus (MPXV). It plays a critical role in viral assembly and entry into host cells and is a major target for neutralizing antibodies. It is highly conserved among orthopoxviruses and shares high homology with VACV L1R. It is being explored as a key antigen in universal mRNA vaccine constructs.
