Overview

Mpox virus envelope glycoprotein A35R is an essential surface antigen present on the extracellular enveloped form of the virus. It acts as a major virulence factor, facilitating cell-to-cell transmission and spread of infection through the formation of actin-containing microvilli. As a homolog of vaccinia virus A33R, it features a type II transmembrane topology and is central to the formation and release of infectious EEV particles. A35R is a prominent target for neutralizing antibody responses and has been effectively incorporated into experimental recombinant and mRNA vaccines for the prevention and treatment of orthopoxvirus infections, including Mpox. The protein is also useful for serological detection and research on antiviral inhibitors targeting viral envelope proteins[1][2][3][4][5].
