Monoamine neurotransmitter systems encompass the networks and molecular machinery responsible for the synthesis, release, action, and degradation of a class of neurotransmitters which includes dopamine, norepinephrine (noradrenaline), serotonin, epinephrine (adrenaline), and histamine.
