Monoamine Receptor

Monoamine receptors are essential mediators for several major neurotransmitters in both central and peripheral nervous systems. They bind monoamines such as dopamine, norepinephrine (noradrenaline), epinephrine (adrenaline), serotonin (5-HT), histamine, melatonin, and various trace amines. Most are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that initiate intracellular signaling cascades upon ligand binding, with the exception of the serotonin 5-HT3 receptor, which is a ligand-gated ion channel. Their diversity underpins complex physiological processes and they remain critical drug targets for treating numerous mental health conditions.

Modulating receptor activity or altering synaptic concentrations through reuptake inhibition or enzymatic degradation blockade
