01

Overview

Monocyte receptors are a diverse group of receptors expressed on the surface of monocytes that mediate their sensing and effector functions. These receptors enable monocytes to recognize pathogens, migrate to sites of infection/inflammation, interact with other immune cells, and perform effector functions such as phagocytosis and cytokine production. Key classes of monocyte receptors include pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), Fc receptors, complement receptors, chemokine receptors, and cytokine receptors. Human monocytes are commonly divided into three subsets based on CD14 and CD16 expression: classical, intermediate, and non-classical, each with distinct functional roles and receptor expression profiles. Targeting monocyte receptors is a potential therapeutic strategy for various diseases including autoimmune disorders, chronic inflammatory states, and infectious diseases.
