Monomethyl Fumarate (MMF)

Target
MMF
Molecular classification
Small Molecule, Active Metabolite
01

Overview

Monomethyl fumarate (MMF) is a small molecule and the active metabolite of dimethyl fumarate (DMF), used as an oral therapy for relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). It activates the Nrf2 pathway, modulates NF-kB, interacts with glutathione, and may inhibit pyrimidine synthesis in lymphocytes. Common side effects include flushing, gastrointestinal symptoms, and lymphocyte count reduction, necessitating regular blood monitoring.
