Overview

Reticuloendothelial cell uptake refers to the process by which cells of the reticuloendothelial system (RES) internalize and clear particles, pathogens, and other foreign materials from the bloodstream. The RES is a network of specialized cells—primarily macrophages and scavenger endothelial cells—distributed throughout various organs, with a predominant presence in the liver (Kupffer cells), spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow, and other tissues. RES plays key roles in phagocytosis, immune regulation, and host defense.
