Monophosphoryl lipid A (MPLA) is a detoxified derivative of the endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS), specifically derived from the cell wall of *Salmonella enterica*. It acts as a Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) agonist, enhancing immune responses while minimizing inflammatory toxicity. MPLA is used as an adjuvant in several vaccines to improve efficacy and promote robust seroconversion by activating both MyD88-dependent and TRIF-dependent signaling pathways.
