Morf4 family associated protein 1 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

The Morf4 family associated protein 1 pseudogene (Ensembl: ENSG00000284847) is a nonfunctional segment of DNA that closely resembles the functional Morf4 family associated protein 1 (MRFAP1) gene but lacks the ability to produce a functional protein product. Pseudogenes may arise through duplication, mutation, or other mechanisms and are usually considered genomic "fossils" or "junk DNA" with no protein-coding capability[1][3]. While some pseudogenes can produce RNA transcripts with potential regulatory functions, there is currently no evidence for a distinct biological, disease, or therapeutic role for this particular pseudogene.

02

Biological functions

Other (pseudogenes may have rare regulatory RNA roles[5][7] but have no established, canonical biological function)
03

Disease associations

Other (no established disease involvement specifically for this pseudogene; disease roles are typically reserved for functional genes or regulatory RNAs with proven activity)
