Molecular classification

Overview

MORF4L2 antisense RNA 1 (MORF4L2-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA gene found on the positive strand of chromosome X, overlapping or in close proximity to the MORF4L2 protein-coding gene. As an antisense lncRNA, its function likely includes regulation of the MORF4L2 sense gene and possibly other nearby loci through mechanisms such as chromatin remodeling, transcriptional interference, or RNA-mediated silencing. Transcriptomic studies suggest MORF4L2-AS1 may have tissue-specific expression patterns and has been associated (by correlation) with certain diseases including glioma susceptibility and leukodystrophies, but its direct biological functions and disease relevance remain largely unexplored and unvalidated. No drugs or specific mechanisms of action targeting this lncRNA have been reported.
