Mortality factor 4-like protein 2 (MORF4L2)

Target
MORF4L2
Molecular classification
Chromatin modifier, Component of the NuA4 histone acetyltransferase complex, Transcription regulator (but not a classic DNA-binding transcription factor)
01

Overview

Mortality factor 4-like protein 2 (MORF4L2) is a nuclear protein encoded on the human X chromosome and operates as a component of the NuA4 histone acetyltransferase complex, which modulates chromatin structure and promotes transcriptional activation of select genes by mediating histone H4 and H2A acetylation[1][2][8]. These epigenetic modifications can alter nucleosome–DNA interactions and facilitate recruitment of additional proteins that regulate gene transcription. MORF4L2 is also implicated in the positive regulation of homologous recombination repair of double-strand DNA breaks and cell cycle regulation, and may contribute to complexes with both pro- and anti-transcriptional properties. Its roles intersect with those of several other chromatin regulators, and mutations or dysregulation have rare disease associations, but typically it is not a direct therapeutic or diagnostic target[1][2][8][7].
