Motor Nerve

Molecular classification
Nerve, Peripheral Nerve, Efferent Pathway
01

Overview

A motor nerve, also known as an efferent nerve, is a nerve that carries motor signals from the central nervous system (CNS) to effector organs such as muscles and glands. It enables voluntary and involuntary movements and controls glandular secretions. Damage or disease affecting motor nerves can result in loss of voluntary movement or paralysis in affected regions.

Efferent NerveNervus Motorius

Mechanism of action

Neuromuscular blocking agents interfere with neurotransmission at the neuromuscular junction. Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors increase acetylcholine levels at the neuromuscular junction. Muscle relaxants act centrally to reduce muscle spasticity.
