MOV10 like RNA helicase 1 (MOV10L1) is a testis-specific, ATP-dependent RNA helicase in the superfamily 1 (SF1) of nucleic acid helicases[3][4][6]. It plays an essential role in the *biogenesis of Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs)* by binding and unwinding piRNA precursor transcripts to initiate their processing in male germ cells[1][4][5][6]. Through its helicase activity, MOV10L1 facilitates the cleavage of primary piRNA precursors and their loading onto Piwi proteins. Disruption or mutation of MOV10L1 leads to loss of piRNAs, de-repression of transposable elements, meiotic arrest, and infertility in male mice, highlighting its importance in *transposon silencing and maintenance of genomic stability during spermatogenesis*[1][3][5][6]. MOV10L1 is distinct from but related to MOV10, another RNA helicase with broader expression and RNA regulatory roles[1]. Currently, MOV10L1 is not a recognized therapeutic target, nor are there clinical biomarkers or drugs that act on it.
