Target intelligence / Profile preview
MPV17 mitochondrial membrane protein-like pseudogene (ENSG00000261444) is a genomic DNA segment similar in sequence to the MPV17 gene but is annotated as a pseudogene, meaning it is not expected to produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes often arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and may be nonfunctional due to mutations, deletions, or lack of regulatory elements. While the genuine MPV17 protein is an inner mitochondrial membrane protein essential for mitochondrial DNA maintenance and implicated in mitochondrial depletion syndromes, the pseudogene does not have a known functional product or biological role and is not a therapeutic target.
