MPZL1 pseudogene 1 (MPZL1P1) is a pseudogene related to the protein-coding gene Myelin protein zero like 1 (MPZL1). Pseudogenes are genetic elements similar in sequence to protein-coding genes but typically lack the ability to encode functional proteins due to mutations or truncations. While pseudogenes do not produce proteins, some can be transcribed into non-coding RNAs (such as long non-coding RNAs), which may regulate their parental gene or other genomic loci at the RNA level. There is currently no evidence that MPZL1P1 encodes a functional protein, nor is it considered a therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. Moreover, there is no direct evidence linking MPZL1P1 to disease roles, biomarkers, drugs, or clinical safety concerns. Its biological significance, if any, remains to be determined.
