MRGPRG antisense RNA 1 (MRGPRG-AS1)

Target
MRGPRG-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Non-protein coding gene
01

Overview

MRGPRG antisense RNA 1 is a human long non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 11 (11p15.4). It does not encode a protein but may function in the regulation of neighboring gene expression or serve as a molecular scaffold; its exact biological role is not yet clarified. There is limited evidence for its association with diseases, such as an unconfirmed link to inflammatory bowel disease. It is sometimes mis-represented as a protein or receptor due to nomenclature overlap with the adjacent MAS Related GPR Family Member G (MRGPRG) gene, which encodes a G protein-coupled receptor. In summary, MRGPRG-AS1 is a non-protein coding lncRNA gene and not a classical receptor or drug target, and available evidence does not support targeting it therapeutically at present.
