Overview

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast" is not a single molecule or target, but rather a general term for agents (usually chemicals such as gadolinium-based complexes, iron oxide particles, or manganese compounds) administered to patients to improve visibility of internal body structures during MRI scans. These agents modify the magnetic properties of tissues, mainly by influencing the relaxation times (T1 and/or T2) of hydrogen nuclei in water, resulting in enhanced image contrast between normal and abnormal tissues. The exact chemical entity should be specified (e.g. 'Gadolinium-based contrast agent') for structured analysis, as 'Magnetic resonance imaging contrast' alone is too broad and not a precise molecular target
