Overview

MRM3 pseudogene 2 (MRM3P2, also called RNMTL1P2 or RNA methyltransferase like 1 pseudogene 2) is a human pseudogene that is homologous to MRM3, a gene encoding mitochondrial rRNA methyltransferase 3, but does not produce a functional protein[1]. Pseudogenes like MRM3P2 may regulate their parent gene’s expression or other genes at the RNA level by acting as decoys or competing for microRNAs and RNA-binding proteins, influencing mRNA stability and translation[2][4][6]. However, there is no current evidence that MRM3P2 serves as a therapeutic target, nor are there drugs, biomarkers, or safety issues associated with this non-coding genomic element.

Biological functions

May participate in regulatory RNA processes such as acting as competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA), miRNA sponging, or influencing stability of homologous messenger RNAs, but no established direct functional activity as a protein or enzyme

Disease associations

Other (Potential regulatory roles in gene expression and disease phenotypes via RNA competition have been described for some pseudogenes, but there is no direct evidence for roles of MRM3P2 in any specific disease)
