Target intelligence / Profile preview
The mRNA of Apolipoprotein B-100 (ApoB-100) encodes a large protein essential for lipid transport and metabolism. ApoB-100, the full-length product expressed primarily in the liver, is crucial for the assembly and secretion of very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), precursors to low-density lipoproteins (LDL). The APOB gene also produces a shorter isoform, ApoB-48, via RNA editing in the intestine.
