MRS2 pseudogene 1 (MRS2P1) is a non-functional genomic locus that shares sequence similarity to the MRS2 family of genes, which in functional contexts encode magnesium transporter proteins involved in mitochondrial magnesium homeostasis in eukaryotes. The canonical MRS2 gene in humans encodes a mitochondrial magnesium transporter, but pseudogenes like MRS2P1 are transcribed but not translated into functional proteins and are considered evolutionary relics or genomic noise. As a pseudogene, MRS2P1 (or MRS2LP1) lacks any direct function as a therapeutic target or drug receptor, and there is no evidence for its involvement in biological pathways, disease, or drug interaction. It is simply a genomic marker with no functional gene product and, therefore, is not considered for therapeutic targeting or biomarker discovery.
