MT-ATP6 pseudogene 9 (MTATP6P9) is a pseudogene in the human genome. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but are noncoding and do not produce functional proteins. MTATP6P9 is related by sequence to the MT-ATP6 gene, which encodes a critical subunit of mitochondrial ATP synthase, responsible for ATP production via oxidative phosphorylation. However, as a pseudogene, MTATP6P9 does not contribute to ATP synthase function and is not known to have any established biological or disease role[6][7]. MT-ATP6 is a well-characterized protein-coding gene in mitochondrial DNA and a validated disease gene associated with mitochondrial disorders[1][3][5][8], but MTATP6P9 is specifically annotated as a pseudogene and does not encode a protein or functional RNA[6][7]. There is no evidence that MTATP6P9 acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other therapeutic target; it is simply a genomic remnant[6][7]. No drugs are known to interact with MTATP6P9, nor is it validated as a biomarker or associated with therapeutic safety concerns.
