Target intelligence / Profile preview
MT-CO1 pseudogene 10 (MTCO1P10) is a non-coding, non-functional genomic sequence that shares homology with the mitochondrial-encoded MT-CO1 gene (cytochrome c oxidase subunit I), but exists in the nuclear genome. Pseudogenes like MTCO1P10 do not encode active proteins and are not direct participants in biological pathways or disease mechanisms. The functional MT-CO1 gene encodes a subunit of cytochrome c oxidase, essential for the mitochondrial electron transport chain and ATP synthesis, and is implicated in several human diseases, but pseudogene counterparts like MTCO1P10 have no such functional or clinical relevance.
