A pseudogene is a segment of DNA that resembles a gene but typically lacks the ability to encode a functional protein due to mutations or disruptions. MTCO1P3 does not code for a functional enzyme, does not participate in mitochondrial respiration, and is not known to have any specific biological function, disease association, or clinical relevance as a therapeutic target.
