MT-CO2 pseudogene 18 (MTCO2P18) is a human pseudogene found in the nuclear genome and annotated in gene databases such as BioGPS and Ensembl. Unlike the protein-coding MT-CO2 gene, which encodes the cytochrome c oxidase II subunit essential for mitochondrial electron transport and cellular respiration, the pseudogene lacks protein-coding potential and does not contribute to enzymatic or receptor activity. As a nonfunctional DNA remnant resembling the active mitochondrial MT-CO2 gene, this pseudogene is not considered a molecular target for therapy, has no established biological function, and is not implicated in human disease roles, drug interactions, or biomarker use.
