MT-CYB pseudogene 14 (MTCYBP14) is a non-coding pseudogene in the human genome, homologous to the functional mitochondrial gene MT-CYB, which encodes cytochrome b, a key protein of mitochondrial complex III involved in respiration[2][4]. Unlike the functional gene, MTCYBP14 does not encode a protein and does not have known biological or disease roles. It is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other type of therapeutic target. Functional information on cytochrome b (MT-CYB) should not be attributed to MTCYBP14, as the latter is a pseudogene. If a therapeutic, diagnostic, or research query is about mitochondrial cytochrome b or Complex III, the correct target is the functional gene MT-CYB, not the pseudogene MTCYBP14. The MTCYBP14 locus may be relevant for evolutionary or genomic studies of mitochondrial genes, but not as a drug or biomarker target[2][4].
