MT-CYB pseudogene 16 (MTCYBP16) is a pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA sequence similar to a real gene but has lost its protein-coding ability through mutation. MTCYBP16 is located on chromosome 4 (chr4:64607703-64608831) and is classified as a pseudogene of the mitochondrial cytochrome b (MT-CYB) gene, which is normally essential for mitochondrial respiratory chain function. However, MTCYBP16 itself is not known to encode a functional protein or RNA, nor is it involved in biological processes associated with the active MT-CYB gene[4][8]. Pseudogenes like MTCYBP16 are not considered therapeutic targets, biomarkers, or contributors to disease, and there is no evidence of drugs or mechanisms of action related to this sequence.
