Target intelligence / Profile preview
MT-CYB pseudogene 31 (MTCYBP31) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome. Unlike the functional MT-CYB gene, which encodes the cytochrome b protein essential for mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, MTCYBP31 is a non-functional copy that does not produce an active protein product. Pseudogenes typically arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition events and accumulate mutations that disable their original function. There is no evidence to support a direct role for MTCYBP31 in disease, biological function, or as a target for therapeutics[2].
