Target intelligence / Profile preview
MT-CYB pseudogene 43 (MTCYBP43) is a nuclear-encoded pseudogene corresponding to the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene. Pseudogenes are genetic sequences similar to known genes but are generally non-functional due to mutations or lack of necessary regulatory elements. MTCYBP43 is located on chromosome 4 at 4p15.1. As a pseudogene, it does not encode a functional protein and is not considered a therapeutic target. There is no evidence for biological activity, involvement in disease, drug targeting, or biomarker use for this pseudogene. The actual functional gene is MT-CYB (mitochondrially encoded cytochrome b), which plays a crucial role in mitochondrial electron transport as part of Complex III and is associated with various mitochondrial diseases. However, MTCYBP43 only references a pseudogene and not the functional gene product. Pseudogenes like MTCYBP43, by definition, lack significant biological function, and any confusion with the active MT-CYB gene should be avoided. MTCYBP43 is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or druggable protein; it is a non-coding pseudogene. If the intent was to find an actionable drug target or disease-associated functional protein, MTCYBP43 is not appropriate. MTCYBP43 is a mitochondrial cytochrome b pseudogene; it is not biologically active or a therapeutic target, and should not be confused with the functional MT-CYB gene.
