Overview

MT-ND1 pseudogene 15 (MTND1P15) is a human nuclear-encoded pseudogene that shares sequence similarity with the mitochondrial MT-ND1 gene but does not produce a functional protein product[2][6][11]. MT-ND1 pseudogenes are found dispersed across the nuclear genome, resulting from ancient mitochondrial DNA insertions. While the functional MT-ND1 gene codes for a critical subunit of mitochondrial Complex I responsible for electron transfer and oxidative phosphorylation, MTND1P15 does not have protein-coding potential and is not known to have a role in normal cellular processes or disease[2][6][11].

Other names
mitochondrially encoded NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase core subunit 1 pseudogene 15
02

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None (no known biological function as a pseudogene, unlike the functional MT-ND1 gene)
04

Disease associations

None directly attributed (pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins; thus, no direct disease linkage known for MTND1P15)
