Overview

MT-ND1 pseudogene 20 (MTND1P20) is a processed pseudogene located on human chromosome 10 (GRCh37: 71,355,243-71,356,192, reverse strand)[2]. It is homologous to the mitochondrial gene MT-ND1, which encodes a core subunit of Complex I in the mitochondrial electron transport chain[1][3][5][7]. However, MTND1P20 itself does not encode a protein and is designated as a pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic remnant derived from MT-ND1 that has lost its ability to code for a functional protein[2][6].\n\nWhile some pseudogenes have regulatory functions or may be transcribed, there is currently no evidence that MTND1P20 has a biological function, is involved in any signaling pathways, or acts as a disease gene. Analysis of brain tissue transcriptomics has found that MTND1P20 expression can be downregulated in Alzheimer’s disease in some specific tissues, but its function and relevance remain unknown and speculative[9]. It is not considered a therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.), does not interact with drugs, and is not used as a biomarker.\n\nSummary: MT-ND1 pseudogene 20 (MTND1P20) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene, not a therapeutic target, with no established biological functions, disease associations, or drug interactions; its annotation as a target is incorrect[2][4][6][9].
