Therefore, MT-ND1 pseudogene 27 is not considered a therapeutic target, nor does it participate in canonical pathways or clinical disease mechanisms. Note: - MT-ND1 pseudogene 27 is sometimes confused with the functional mitochondrial MT-ND1 gene. Only the true MT-ND1 gene encodes a protein core to mitochondrial complex I function and is implicated in various pathologies, including mitochondrial disorders and neurodegenerative diseases[1][3][5][7]. - Care should be taken not to misattribute biological or therapeutic functions of MT-ND1 to MT-ND1 pseudogene 27, as the latter is not functionally active[2].
