MT-ND1 pseudogene 31 (MTND1P31) is a non-functional, non-coding segment of the human genome, classified as a pseudogene related in sequence to the functional mitochondrial gene MT-ND1 (which encodes a core protein in mitochondrial Complex I of the electron transport chain). This pseudogene is located on the nuclear genome (chrX:62842542-62843502, hg38) and does not code for an active protein. Pseudogenes like MTND1P31 are remnants of genes that have lost their protein-coding ability or function through evolution and do not have established roles as biological or therapeutic targets. Key clarifications: - MTND1P31 is not the same as MT-ND1, a mitochondrial gene associated with critical mitochondrial functions and certain diseases; MTND1P31 is only a nuclear pseudogene with sequence similarity. - There is no evidence that MTND1P31 is expressed, has biological function, or is involved in known pathology or drug response.
