MT-ND2 pseudogene 24 (MTND2P24) is a nuclear pseudogene derived from the mitochondrial MT-ND2 gene, which normally encodes a subunit of the mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I (NADH dehydrogenase 2). MTND2P24 does not encode a functional protein and has no known enzymatic, transporter, or receptor activity. Pseudogenes like MTND2P24 are often non-functional remnants of genes that have lost coding potential through mutations or genomic rearrangements. Although some mitochondrial pseudogenes exhibit altered expression in tissues and diseases such as neurodegenerative disorders, their direct biological function—if any—remains largely uncharacterized[3][5]. MTND2P24 is therefore not considered a therapeutic target or biologically active molecule.
