MT-ND2 pseudogene 32 (MTND2P32) is a nuclear-encoded pseudogene corresponding to the mitochondrial NADH: ubiquinone oxidoreductase core subunit 2 (MT-ND2). Unlike the functional MT-ND2 gene in mitochondrial DNA, MTND2P32 does not encode a protein and does not participate in electron transport or cellular respiration. Pseudogenes such as MTND2P32 may arise from duplication or retrotransposition events, but generally lack transcriptional or biological activity. There is no current evidence supporting MTND2P32 as a clinically relevant drug target, disease gene, or biomarker.
