MT-ND4 pseudogene 13 is a nuclear pseudogene on chromosome 6 (chr6:153668879-153669901, hg38) that resembles the sequence of the mitochondrial MT-ND4 gene but does not code for an active protein and has no known biological function or clinical significance. It is not the same as the active mitochondrial gene MT-ND4, which encodes a critical protein component of mitochondrial complex I involved in oxidative phosphorylation. MT-ND4 pseudogene 13 (MTND4P13) should not be confused with the functional mitochondrial gene MT-ND4, which plays a major role in mitochondrial electron transport and is involved in several diseases including Leber hereditary optic neuropathy and other mitochondrial diseases. The pseudogene is a genomic DNA sequence similar to the active MT-ND4 gene but is not transcribed or translated into a functional protein and is therefore not a therapeutic target or receptor. There are no drugs, disease associations, or known functions related to this pseudogene. If the intended target was the mitochondrial enzyme ND4 (MT-ND4), it is important to use the correct mitochondrial gene/protein name, not the pseudogene. MT-ND4 pseudogene 13 appears in genetic databases primarily as a reference pseudogene with no direct biological or clinical utility as a target.
