Overview

MT-ND4 pseudogene 15 (MTND4P15) is a recognized pseudogene in the human nuclear genome and is classified as such by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee[4]. This locus does not code for a functional protein, nor is it involved in mitochondrial respiratory chain activity, electron transport, or other canonical biological processes attributed to the functional mitochondrial ND4 gene or its protein product. Pseudogenes like MTND4P15 can result from the duplication or retrotransposition of functional genes and typically contain mutations or truncations preventing translation into protein[8]. While the functional MT-ND4 gene is important for mitochondrial function and linked to several diseases, MTND4P15 itself has no therapeutic relevance, does not serve as a medical or pharmacological target, and has no established role in physiology or disease.
