MT-ND4 pseudogene 19 (MTND4P19)

Target
MTND4P19
Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

MT-ND4 pseudogene 19 is a nonfunctional nuclear pseudogene related to the mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase 4 gene (MT-ND4). Unlike the bona fide mitochondrial MT-ND4 gene, which encodes a core subunit of Complex I in the mitochondrial respiratory chain, MT-ND4 pseudogenes are nuclear sequences derived from ancient mitochondrial gene insertions (NUMTs) and do not encode functional proteins. These pseudogenes may contain mutations, insertions, or premature stop codons that prevent protein translation. They are sometimes amplified in molecular genetic assays but do not contribute to mitochondrial function or disease pathogenesis[6]. If you are looking for the real therapeutic target, search for “MT-ND4” or “NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase chain 4”; MTND4P19 is not a genuine target or protein but a genomic relic.
