MTND4P4 (MT-ND4 pseudogene 4) is a nuclear pseudogene sequence homologous to the mitochondrial gene MT-ND4. It is classified as a NUMT (nuclear mitochondrial DNA segment), a nonfunctional or partially transcribed DNA segment in the nuclear genome that originated from the mitochondrial genome through evolutionary transfer. Like other pseudogenes, MTND4P4 does not encode a functional protein, nor is it involved in any canonical cellular processes or directly associated with human disease. However, NUMTs like MTND4P4 may be amplified inadvertently in genomic assays, which can cause methodological issues in genetic testing and research. MTND4P4 itself is not considered a therapeutic target, enzyme, transporter, or receptor.
