MT-ND5 pseudogene 29 (MTND5P29), also known as mitochondrially encoded NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase core subunit 5 pseudogene 29, is not a protein-coding gene but rather a nuclear pseudogene associated with the mitochondrial gene MT-ND5[8][5]. It is a nuclear pseudogene that resembles the sequence of the mitochondrial gene encoding NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase core subunit 5 (MT-ND5), but exists in the nuclear genome and is not translated into a functional protein[8][5]. Pseudogenes such as MTND5P29 arise when sequences similar to mitochondrial genes are inserted into the nuclear genome and accumulate mutations, including frameshifts and premature stop codons, which prevent them from producing functional proteins. These nuclear pseudogenes are commonly discovered upon PCR amplification or sequencing targeting mitochondrial genes but do not encode usable targets for drugs, nor do they play direct roles in biological function or disease[5]. As such, MTND5P29 is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any therapeutic target.
