MT-ND6 pseudogene 10 (MTND6P10) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence that resembles the mitochondrially encoded NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase core subunit 6 gene (MT-ND6), a component of mitochondrial Complex I[1][4]. Unlike the protein-coding MT-ND6 gene—which plays an essential role in mitochondrial electron transport and is associated with mitochondrial diseases—the pseudogene does not encode a protein, has no known biological function, is not implicated in any diseases, and is not a therapeutic target[1][3][4]. Confusion between the pseudogene and the real MT-ND6 gene is common; only the protein-coding gene participates in mitochondrial respiratory function.
