Overview

MTCH2P1 (MTCH2 pseudogene 1) is a pseudogene corresponding to the MTCH2 gene, which encodes mitochondrial carrier homolog 2. Pseudogenes such as MTCH2P1 are non-functional genomic DNA sequences derived from functional genes; they are generally not expressed as protein and have no verified biological functions, clinical significance, or drug interactions. The protein-coding counterpart, MTCH2, is a mitochondrial outer membrane protein involved in mitochondrial protein insertion, metabolism, apoptosis, and energy homeostasis. However, there is no current evidence that MTCH2P1 encodes a functional protein or serves as a direct therapeutic target in human disease.
